The Wenatchee Valley Knights Volleyball team faced Big Bend Vikings, on Friday October 10. Throughout the entire match each team fought hard to earn their first win of the conference season. The Knights played their hearts out and worked together, even though it was a loss in the end doesn't mean they didn't put everything they had to pull out a win.
Captain and Freshman Eliza Smith, was happy with how her and her teammates played throughout the entire match. "It was devastating that we worked that hard but still lost, but I was happy that we fought hard anyway," said Smith. Smith has always wanted to continue to put praise on her teammates and be a trusted captain that her teammates can turn to, no matter what. "I want to put praise on the Outsides for working hard to put the ball away and finding the court." She looks forward to the rest of the season and continuing to work and fight hard throughout every match. She wants to work hard for herself and for her team to pull off a win in a conference match.
Freshman Kayliana Blackmore, played an amazing match and scored a lot of points for her team no matter where she was on the court and only being in for three rotations, she scored twelve kills on twenty four attempts, with zero errors the second most kills in the game alongside her teammate Marley Rains. She ended up hitting a .500 for the entire match. She played one of her best matches throughout her entire season. Blackmore loves seeing her team work together better than they ever have. "I really wanted a win, but I also wanted to see us work hard together and improve as a team and as individuals, and I feel like we accomplished that," said Blackmore. Even though the match ended in a loss, Blackmore didn't think it was a complete loss. "Overall I think we played great and had some amazing rallies. I'm proud of us for pushing through even when things weren't going our way and for how well we fought as a team. Personally I had a lot of fun because it was an intense match and I feel more confident after how well we played."
Sophomore and captain Jaya Griffin, knew how hard her team had fought and felt proud for all her teammates. "I truly think we played well, especially our middles and our defense, we have been working consistently with the middles and defense, so I am very proud," said Griffin. For only being in for three rotations Griffin always wanted to leave everything on the floor every time she stepped onto the court, she wanted to do her job, fix her mistakes and play her heart out during the match. Griffin knows her team has what it takes to pull out a win within the conference season, and even though it didn't go as she wanted she is proud of all her teammates and of herself for how hard everyone fought on and off the court.
Even though the Knights didn't pull out a win this time, they know they have what it takes to win. Every teammate praises another for their hard work in this game and look forward to the next one on Friday October 17, at home versus Treasure Valley.
