TUKWILA, Wash. – The Wenatchee Valley College Women's Soccer team opened the season with a strong showing against Edmonds CC before falling just short by a score of 3-1. The Knights then concluded the NWAC Friendlies dropping a 5-0 decision to Chemeketa in a quick turnaround.
The Knights battled back against Edmonds after the Tritons opened the scoring in the 11th minute. They added another goal in the 34th minute to extend out to a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Stephanie Gonzalez and Lorena Jimenez combined to setup the first WVC goal of 2024 when Jimenez assisted Gonzalez's goal in the 53rd minute to trim the deficit in half. Some bad luck stopped the momentum for the Knights as an own goal in the 66th minute extended Edmonds' lead back to two at 3-1.
Rayen Blue made the start in goal for WVC collecting two saves in playing all 90 minutes.
On day two, it was a tight turnaround as the Knights played the 7 p.m. game on Tuesday and then played at 10 a.m. on Wednesday against Chemeketa.
The Storm took advantage collecting a goal in the second minute. WVC played tough after that, holding the deficit at one until the 29th minute when Chemeketa added a second tally and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Storm posted a goal in the 55th minute and it remained 3-0 until a pair of goals in the 80th and 82nd minutes provided the final score of 5-0.
WVC generated some chances over the first 45 minutes firing three shots on frame that were saved. Blue again started in goal for the Knights, stopping seven shots in playing all 90 minutes.
