Sandy Cooprider dedicated 44 years to Wenatchee Valley College as a coach, teacher, and athletic director, leaving a legacy that continues to shape student-athletes and the greater Wenatchee community. After arriving at WVC in 1971, he envisioned transforming undeveloped land into a first-class athletic complex that would provide opportunities for generations to come.
With no state or college funding available, Cooprider refused to let his vision fade. Instead, he built a network of community partners, local businesses, organizations, and volunteers who believed in the dream as strongly as he did. A hands-on leader, he learned to operate heavy equipment and spent countless hours working alongside volunteers to help build the fields himself. Through his persistence and ability to inspire others, what once seemed impossible became the community-built Sandy Cooprider Sport Field Complex.
Over the course of his career, Cooprider coached, taught, and mentored an estimated 20,000 students. His influence extended far beyond the classroom and playing field, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and service in the young people he guided. The athletic complex he helped create has provided outstanding facilities for Wenatchee Valley College student-athletes while also serving the Wenatchee Apple-Sox, countless youth and high school athletes throughout North Central Washington.
Today, Cooprider continues to support Wenatchee Valley College as the Knight Nation Athletic Ambassador, helping strengthen connections among alumni, supporters, and the college's athletic community
Known for his optimism, relentless work ethic, and ability to bring people together, Cooprider demonstrated what can be accomplished when vision is matched with determination. His enduring legacy is found not only in the fields that bear his name, but in the thousands of lives he touched and the community he inspired to dream bigger.
