Greg Sparling was named Director of Athletics, Exercise Science, and Recreation at Wenatchee Valley College in December 2025. In his role, he oversees the college’s athletic programs while leading efforts in student-athlete success, community engagement, fundraising, and program development.
Sparling brings more than 30 years of collegiate athletics experience to the Knights program. Prior to joining WVC, he served in coaching and leadership positions at institutions including Central Washington University and the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he built a reputation for strong leadership, student-athlete development, and successful community engagement initiatives.
Throughout his career, Sparling has emphasized the importance of academic achievement, culture building, and creating positive experiences for student-athletes both on and off the field of competition. His background includes extensive work in fundraising, athletic operations, recruitment, and program development. He has helped lead successful fundraising campaigns, community outreach events, and student support initiatives focused on retention, wellness, and academic success.
In his first six months at Wenatchee Valley College, Sparling secured a $25,000 grant to support WVC Athletics and helped organize the highly successful Kenny Mayne fundraiser event and auction, which drew more than 300 attendees from the community. The event raised scholarship dollars to directly support WVC student-athletes while strengthening the connection between the college and the Wenatchee Valley community.
A former collegiate basketball player at Central Washington University, Sparling earned his bachelor’s degree from CWU and an associate degree from Highline Community College.
Greg and his wife, Kristin, have been married for 30 years and are proud parents of two sons. Their son Coleman is a recent master’s graduate from Texas Tech University and currently serves on the Texas Tech Basketball staff, continuing the family’s strong connection to collegiate athletics. Their son Jacob is a team roper and rancher in Arizona. Family has always played a central role in Sparling’s life and career, shaping his commitment to mentorship, hard work, and building strong relationships within the communities he serves.
As Athletic Director, Sparling is committed to strengthening the connection between WVC Athletics and the Wenatchee Valley community while building a culture centered on integrity, pride, accountability, and student-athlete success.
