Coach Ervin enters his sixth season with the Wenatchee Valley College baseball program and his first season as Interim Head Coach, bringing a wealth of experience as both a player and coach.
A Washington State native, Ervin starred at Omak High School before continuing his playing career at Spokane Falls Community College, where he spent two seasons and earned All-NWAC honors as a catcher. He then transferred to Emporia State University, where he played two seasons and was recognized as an All-MIAA catcher. Following his collegiate career, Ervin signed professionally with the San Diego Padres organization.
Ervin began his coaching career at Wenatchee High School, serving as both an assistant coach and head coach from 2017 to 2023. In 2020, he joined the Wenatchee Valley College Knights coaching staff as an assistant coach, overseeing the hitters and catchers. During his tenure at WVC, a Knights catcher has earned All-NWAC First Team honors every season, and Ervin has played a key role in helping establish the program as a perennial contender in the NWAC East Region. Most recently, he helped guide the Knights to a second-place finish in the East Region and a berth in the NWAC Championships, further cementing the program's status among the conference's top competitors.
Off the field, Coach Ervin and his wife, Emily, are enjoying life as empty nesters as their children, Lilly and Owen, pursue their college educations and future aspirations. When they are not at the ballpark, they enjoy traveling, exploring the outdoors, and spending time together laughing and making memories.
Coaching Philosophy:
“Baseball always teaches…it’s why it’s the greatest game ever thought of. It relates to life more completely than any other sport. It gets in your bones and years down the road you will look back and see that it taught you exactly what you needed to learn, exactly when you needed to learn it. It’s beautiful and hard and glorious all at the same time. It will apply to your life in marriage. In employment. In business. It teaches hard moments in the moment. You will grow in every regard because of this game…and then you will pass your lessons on to your kids, and it becomes legacy. At WVC we help young men grow as ballplayers, but more importantly, we grow young men to do well in life.”
